Deco confirms Wojciech Szczęsny’s Barcelona future | OneFootball

Barcelona sporting director Deco has on Saturday spoken out on the future of goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny.

And it is an update which will no doubt go down a treat with all of a Blaugrana persuasion.

This comes amid confirmation that the Pole is set to stay put beyond the expiration of his current terms in Catalunya’s capital this summer.

Szczęsny, for his part, has of course spent the last couple of months establishing himself as the new no.1 in Barcelona’s squad.

Brought in following the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen, the 35-year-old has done a stellar job of displacing Iñaki Peña as Hansi Flick’s first-choice option between the posts.

Szczęsny, remarkably, tasted defeat for the very first time in Barca’s colours in midweek, at the hands of Borussia Dortmund.

Prior to as much, the former Arsenal and Juventus man had not found himself on the wrong side of the result in a single one of his 22 appearances.

Owing to such excellence, rumours have long begun to mount in the media, pointing towards Szczęsny staying put with Hansi Flick’s squad for next season.

And as alluded to above, on Saturday, as much was all but made official by Blaugrana director Deco:

“We are very happy with Szczesny. He will be with us next season for sure.”
