Kerstin Casparij says it was a straightforward decision to extend her stay at Manchester City.

The Netherlands international has penned a new contract with the Club that will keep her at the Joie Stadium until the summer of 2027.

It will see the flying fullback spend five years of her career with Gareth Taylor’s side after signing in the summer of 2022.

Since then, she has made 66 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and registering eight assists, while cementing her place in our starting XI thanks to tireless and classy displays from right-back.

And she revealed it wasn’t a difficult choice to remain at City once Managing Director Charlotte O’Neill and Head Coach Taylor made it clear they wanted her to stay.

“It feels amazing,” Casparij declared.

“I’ve waited a while and it took a bit of time, but it’s really good to get it over the line and stay a couple more years.

“It was pretty much a no-brainer and as soon as Charlotte O’Neill and Gaz let me know they wanted to extend my contract I was pretty much up for it straight away.

“There wasn’t a lot of consideration into it. It’s nice not having the stress of where am I or my family going to be, or if I have to move etcetera.

“The stability is nice which is not a guaranteed thing in football. Wherever I am, I try to create that so it was really good.”

“It does [feel an exciting time]. I think we’re doing really good things. It’s exciting and that’s why I wanted to extend to see where we’re heading and we’ve got exciting times ahead of us.”

Casparij’s City extension follows key players such as Lauren Hemp, Yui Hasegawa, Alex Greenwood and Leila Ouahabi in doing so.

Taylor also penned fresh terms in March which will keep him at the Joie Stadium until the summer of 2027.

And the Netherlands defender revealed our head coach played a crucial role in her initial switch the Blues and the decision to sign a new deal.

She added: “Initially, he [Taylor] signed his contract until 2027 as well. After he signed, we had a conversation and he said he’s staying a couple more years.

“He was looking at the team he wanted to have and he wanted me to stay part of that. I think that’s the only conversation we’ve had. He said ‘I really want you to stay’.

“Obviously I wanted to stay as well so it was a brief conversation. “[He] obviously had a big influence.

“He was the one who signed me in the first place and before initially signing he had big trust in me and helped me look at the bigger picture and kind of convinced me why coming to City was the best thing for me.

“Over the last two years he’s convinced me that still this is the best place for me and where we want to go as a team and also for me personally and how I fit into the model, game plan and also the Club.

“Also the values the Club has, so he’s had an incredibly big influence.”
