Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano have returned to Bayern Munich from international duty nursing significant injuries.
Bayern will be without first-choice left-back Davies for the next six months after the Canadian tore a cruciate ligament in his knee during his nation's 2-1 win over the United States in the Concacaf Nations League on Sunday.
Davies pulled up after just 12 minutes at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and scans have now revealed the extent of the injury.
In a bitter double blow for Bayern, Upamecano joined his teammate in the medical bay as France beat Croatia in the UEFA Nations League. He played the full 90 minutes as Les Bleus punched their ticket into the semi-finals, but picked up a knee injury in the process.
"Unfortunately, during international breaks, there's always the risk of players returning injured – this time it hit us particularly hard. The absences of Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano weigh heavily on FC Bayern," said sporting director Max Eberl.
"Phonzy will receive all the support he needs on his way back. We'll also closely monitor Upa in the coming weeks and expect him to be available again soon."
Raphaël Guerreiro and Eric Dier are first in line to deputise at left-back and centre-back respectively, while Hiroki Ito can provide cover in both positions.
