Leeds United star and reported Manchester United target Archie Gray is set to have a medical at Brentford with a £35m deal on the brink of getting over the line.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Red Devils were among a number of clubs to register their interest in Gray.

Other clubs mentioned to be in for the Leeds star include Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Gray enjoyed a breakout 2023/24 season at Elland Road that saw him make 47 Championship appearances and 52 across all competitions. He scored just once and assisted twice.

He played a crucial role as the Whites made it to the play-off final, where they ultimately fell short as they were beaten by Southampton. Gray played all 90 minutes on that occasion.

The 18-year-old is the son of ex-Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Burnley striker Andy Gray. He came through the ranks at Leeds and was named in a first-team Premier League squad by Marcelo Bielsa at just 15.

Gray went on to be included on the bench on another five occasions in 2021/22 but he didn’t get a taste of action.

According to Ornstein, the United target is now just one step away from sealing a transfer to Brentford.

The Athletic journalist reveals, “Archie Gray is set to undergo a medical at Brentford after agreeing personal terms to join the west London club from Leeds United.”

“A host of Premier League and other European teams have been pursuing the 18-year-old midfielder, however Brentford manoeuvred themselves into the strongest position and are now working to close out a deal.”

“If all goes according to plan on the player’s side, Brentford can be expected to reach an agreement with Leeds for a fee in the region of £35million.”

“Interest remains from elsewhere and Leeds are also not resigned to losing such a highly-rated talent, although their financial position may leave them with no choice but to reluctantly sanction his exit.”

Gray’s contract with Leeds runs until 2028.
