Former Spain international David de Gea is at the heart of something of a tug-of-war between two prominent clubs ahead of the summer.
That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Fiorentina and AS Monaco as the sides in question.
Goalkeeper De Gea, for his part, is fresh off something of a comeback season in Italy in 2024/25.
After a year away from the game following his departure from Premier League giants Manchester United, the 34-year-old was afforded the chance to prove himself by the aforementioned Fiorentina.
And to say that De Gea went on to manage as much would be something of an understatement.
Across the campaign in Florence, the talented shot-stopper racked up 42 appearances, showcasing flashes of his very best to light up Italian football.
And such exploits, it would appear, have not gone at all unnoticed across the continent.
As per a report from the aforementioned Fabrizio Romano:
‘AS Monaco have David De Gea on their shortlist as new goalkeeper, one of their desired targets.’
It is also noted, though, that ‘Fiorentina are in talks to keep De Gea and extend his contract until June 2028 as a priority.’
