Danny Murphy has claimed Chelsea target Liam Delap is the best young English striker out there and has everything to be a top player.

The Blues have made a very good start to the season and currently sit third in the Premier League, just a point behind Manchester City in second.

Despite not signing a striker in the summer Chelsea haven’t struggled for goals and are the third highest scorers in the league with 23 goals from 12 games.

It’s well documented the Blues are looking for a striker having pursued Victor Osimhen for the majority of the summer, whilst they also had a deal agreed for Samu Omorodion which surprisingly collapsed at the last minute.

Nicolas Jackson’s start to the season has shown not bringing a striker in might not have been the worst thing and the Senegal international has seven goals and three assists in 12 games.

Chelsea are big believers in Jackson and a report from The Athletic last week stated the Blues believe the 23-year-old is one of the top three strikers in the Premier League.

With uncertainty surrounding the future of Christopher Nkunku a new striker is likely still on Chelsea’s list and they have been linked with a move for Ipswich forward Delap.

The 21-year-old joined the Tractor Boys in the summer from Manchester City and has made an impressive start to the season with six goals in 12 games, with Delap said to rank very highly in the data.

Ex-Liverpool player Murphy believes Delap is the best young English striker out there and claimed he doesn’t see a weakness in him.

“I think he is the best young English striker out there,” he told Match of the Day 2.

“He has got all the attributes to be a top international player. I just don’t see a weakness for him. He has just got that lovely balance between physical and technical [ability] and rarely do you get both. He is a super talent.”

Having come through the academy at City he is well known to both Enzo Maresca and Joe Shields and when you factor that in you can see how a move would make sense, and it will be interesting to see how he develops over the course of the season.
