Daniel Farke reveals key difference between Ipswich Town and Leeds United in promotion race | OneFootball

Daniel Farke has identified experience, notably in midfield, as a key difference between Ipswich Town and his team Leeds United in both teams' promotion quest.

These comments came after Ipswich took a massive step closer to securing automatic promotion, having secured a 2-1 win against Coventry City in midweek.

This victory took the Tractor Boys within a point of securing automatic promotion, having taken advantage of Leeds' heavy defeat at Queens Park Rangers.

With Kieran McKenna's side facing Huddersfield Town, who are effectively relegated considering their inferior goal difference, the Tractor Boys are huge favourites to secure the second and final automatic promotion spot.

If they succeed, Leeds will be consigned to a play-off place and that isn't ideal for the Whites, who suffered heartbreak in this lottery in 2019 when they were knocked out at the semi-final stage by Derby County.

The Whites may have a strong squad, but anyone can be victorious in the play-offs and that has been reinforced by many underdogs over the years, including Blackpool under Ian Holloway.

Plenty of young players have thrived for Leeds this term.

Crysencio Summerville is only 22 but has been the Whites' star player this season, Willy Gnonto is only 20 and Archie Gray is only 18.

All of those players are likely to grow into even better players in the future and that's exciting for the Whites, but manager Farke has revealed that this inexperience isn't always a great thing.

He said: "When I compare Ipswich, for example, credit to them, they're playing a fantastic season, outstanding work of Kieran.

"I have a look at their central midfield, they play with Sam Morsy and [Massimo] Luongo in the decisive moments. Morsy, I think, 34 (32), Luongo, so these are lads who were in this position before.

"They know, when the offensive players are not on it, I have to send a sign. When I need to be there with a tactical foul, I am there with a tactical foul.

"I think, what is it, Morsy with 14 yellow cards? If you are in this position, normally you want to have this experience of these players to bring it over the line. We don't have this group and we know this."

Ipswich Town have the right ingredients to win promotion

Ipswich have the right mix of players at their disposal.

Kieffer Moore was a much-needed, experienced addition at Portman Road, with the Tractor Boys needing more know-how in the final third during the winter window.

And as Farke has pointed out, they have a lot of extremely valuable experience in their midfield department, which has been key for them.

The likes of Sam Morsy and Massimo Luongo have played at this level for a considerable amount of time and know what it takes to be successful.

Ipswich's manager McKenna has been brilliant too - and the team has worked together well to beat the odds and keep themselves in the promotion mix.
