Leeds United boss Daniel Farke was full of praise for midfielder Brenden Aaronson after the Whites secured a 2-0 win over Millwall in the Championship at Elland Road on Wednesday night.
The Whites lost their healthy lead at the top to Sheffield United following two disappointing results against West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth. The Blades earned a 1-1 draw against Bristol City on Tuesday to move ahead of them.
Leeds returned to winning ways and have now taken a two-point lead (and four over Burnley) over Sheffield United in the race for automatic promotion.
Joe Rothwell was superb during the game, and the UK media praised him heavily for his performance. Farke also stressed Rothwell’s importance to the side. The Whites boss especially mentioned Aaronson, and it seems he was really pleased with the USA international’s effort against Millwall.
Farke was impressed with Aaronson’s work rate and hailed him as “excellent”. The 24-year-old has been poor in recent games, but he produced a really eye-catching performance against Millwall.
He said, as quoted by Leeds Live: “He is always excellent, he was excellent today. His best performance in recent weeks. Should have got an assist today. Not perfect but he has overcome his poorer period.”
Aaronson has been the mainstay in the Leeds team this season. He has made 37 appearances in the Championship, scoring eight goals and providing two assists.
Against Millwall, he registered five shots, played out 54 passes with 91% accuracy, and managed three key passes.
He won nine out of 12 ground duels and made four tackles to round off a really impressive performance for the Whites.
Aaronson works extremely hard for the team, but doubts remain over his creative ability. He is integral to Farke’s plans and the Whites boss will be delighted to find that the attacking midfielder has found his best form just when the team needed him to deliver.
