Manchester City have already ‘distanced themselves’ from a move for FC Barcelona’s Dani Olmo, who faced an uncertain future with the La Liga club.
The situation surrounding the Catalan giants has taken a fresh turn for the worst this month after it emerged in recent days that Barcelona officials have been unable to register Dani Olmo as a player for Hansi Flick’s first-team squad with La Liga’s offices.
Reports have subsequently also indicated that the Spain international, who was a star performer for his country at last summer’s European Championships, will not be able to play in the UEFA Champions League either, if Barcelona are not able to register him.
Andy Bara, Dani Olmo’s representatives, has since conducted an interview surrounding the situation in which he explained, “It’s a stressful situation for him, as it would be for any other player.
“But he’s a great player and person, and he’s trying to be calm… Of course, Dani (Olmo) is a winner and he loves to play the games, not to watch them.”
Unsurprisingly given the uncertainty over whether Olmo will be able to play for Barcelona any time soon, there has been a mass unloading of reports speculating the possibility of a free transfer to another European club, with a loan move not a possibility.
But according to the information of Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’ on X, the reigning Premier League champions, Manchester City had already distanced themselves from a move for FC Barcelona’s Dani Olmo ‘a few days ago’.
Despite that stance, it is reaffirmed that the club’s interest had been ‘long-standing’, although City have always been ‘wary’ of Barcelona’s financial and political moves given their belief that they had signed Lionel Messi in 2020 on a free transfer, only for it all to collapse.
Reports linking Manchester City with a January move for Olmo were certainly not quietened by comments from agent, Andy Bara earlier this season, after he confirmed to one newspaper in England that he was on location in Manchester, but only ‘on holidays’.
The same report also pointed out that Bara had flown to Manchester by private jet ahead of City’s Boxing Day game against Everton in the Premier League, and was due to be attending the match.
The reason for Bara’s visit to the Etihad Stadium have remained unknown since, although some have found it difficult to imagine a scenario where Dani Olmo’s name was not brought up in conversation with City officials, had they have met.
