Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim insists Dan Ashworth’s shock departure as sporting director will not impact the club’s vision of winning the Premier League title again.
Ashworth left United last week with the news coming as a significant shock given the efforts the club had gone to to lure him away from previous club Newcastle.
Amorim paid tribute to Ashworth’s support in their short time together but vowed his exit will not distract from the overall vision of the club.
“I have felt, since day one, the support from everybody so one person leaving doesn’t change nothing. Of course it is a bad situation like I said because you are talking about a human being, a professional that supports us as a team,” he said ahead of the Europa League clash with Viktoria Plzen.
“I think the most important thing is that the vision is really clear and that vision does not change only because one person leaves.”
Pushed on what that vision is, Amorim continued: “I cannot tell you about the vision in just a press conference. We want to take this club to winning the Premier League and to be an elite club like this club should be.
“In this way we have to make changes because of the context, I don’t know. You can change the coach because you do not have the results, so you can have a vision.
“Sometimes you make a slight change in direction too see the same goal, so this could happen in football and we are focused on winning the Premier League. That is the main goal of this club.
“Our goal is to win the Premier League, not just to go to to Champions League.
“To go to Champions League is an important point to win the Premier League that is really clear, but for me the most important thing is to win and to to see something different in the team and in every game.”
