Daft to write Trusty off after his Dens Park disaster

Yes, Trusty had a complete mare last night, but writing him off is nonsense. Brendan will still see him as CCV’s regular partner going forward…

We didn’t exactly cover ourselves in glory during last night’s draw at Dundee, with certain players undoubtedly toren to shreds by Brendan Rodgers in the dressing room afterwards.

Brendan echoing all our sentiments

One player that was publicly slated by the manager in his post match interview was Auston Trusty. It shouldn’t really come as a surprise though as he had a nightmare with Brendan echoing all our sentiments with his ‘weak as’ quip which was captured by the Sky cameras in the aftermath of Dundee’s third goal.

More calm and composed

Brendan was more calm and composed after the game when he spoke of players needing to be more stronger in that situation, particularly Trusty. As Brendan said, he’s 6 ft 4 inches and has to deal with that. It was diabolical defending from the USA international and one that’s out of character when you consider his performances since his £6 million move from Sheffield United last summer.

He’s been a rock alongside both CCV and Liam Scales especially in Europe, and he hasn’t exactly put a foot wrong since last night’s disaster at Dens. That was his first shocker of a performance in a Celtic jersey and he wasn’t the only one last night.

This has led to some supporters questioning his ability and writing him off altogether, which is quite frankly ridiculous. One game doesn’t make you a world beater, just as one bad game doesn’t make you a dud.

Despite Brendan’s criticism, I still fully expect Auston to be CCV’s regular central defensive partner going forward although the case for Liam Scales starting at the weekend against Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup is a strong one.

Brendan will have that decision to make over the next few days.
