'I have really fond memories of my time in Paris. I came with my family, my wife and my two sons, and we really enjoyed living in Paris. It was a wonderful experience both personally and professionally, at a great club, alongside top players, and with a high-level staff.'

You were a well-established played in La Liga, (more than 450 matches with FC Barcelona then Espanyol, 6 caps with La Roja) why did you decide to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2001 ?

'I think the time had come for me to discover another country, another culture, another league. Honestly, I believe it’s one of the best decisions I made in my career because I truly enjoyed every moment of the two seasons I spent in Paris, the last of my career as a professional footballer.'

What is your best footballing memory in Paris?

'I would say it was probably my first league match against Lille at the Parc des Princes, I loved the atmosphere. I had already played a match in Paris in the Intertoto Cup, but this was my first league appearance in that magnificent stadium, in front of those fans—it was a great evening! I remember being very pleasantly surprised by how they supported the club and the team no matter what. Unique supporters, who never stopped cheering for their team and bringing the stands to life. When I played, I remember you could really feel their support. Honestly, I have incredible memories of that, especially since I was so warmly welcomed.'

In 2009, you briefly managed Girona, who Paris Saint-Germain will now face in the Champions League. At that time, the club was in D2, so there have been a fair few changes since then...

'Yes, it has changed a lot. Back then, it was a club playing in the lower divisions of Spanish football. I was just starting my coaching career, and the club was very different from what it has become. It’s a club that has evolved significantly, especially in recent seasons. Today, it is a very well-structured club with excellent sporting direction and a great coach. Last season’s historic performance is proof of that.'

And what can we expect from this team on Wednesday night?

'Currently, I’m coaching Racing Club de Ferrol in the second division, and I admit that I haven’t really had the time to closely observe Girona. However, I did manage to watch a few matches, and what I can tell you is that they are a team that likes to have possession and relies on a solid group. A team that takes risks, builds from the back, and has real attacking quality. But despite that, Paris Saint-Germain remain the stronger team, particularly thanks to their world-class players and their coach, Luis Enrique, who has already proven himself at the highest level.'
