Liverpool FC has made another significant move in the reshaping of its executive structure with the announcement of Craig Evans as the club’s new Senior Vice President of Communications. This latest development follows a series of high-profile changes within the club’s leadership, as it continues to evolve under the guidance of Fenway Sports Group (FSG).
In what has been a season of considerable changes, Liverpool’s boardroom has seen substantial restructuring. The appointment of Michael Edwards as the CEO of Football for Fenway Sports Group earlier in March 2024 marked the start of a new chapter. Edwards, who previously held the role of sporting director, was given greater seniority and a wider remit, as outlined by FSG president Mike Gordon.

Alongside Edwards, Richard Hughes was named the new sporting director, taking on his responsibilities at the AXA Training Centre on June 1, 2024. Hughes arrives after a decade in a similar role at AFC Bournemouth and brings a wealth of experience to the position, strengthening the club’s football operations.
Liverpool’s recent announcement that Craig Evans will step into the role of Senior Vice President of Communications on June 1, 2025, is another step in the club’s leadership overhaul. Evans, who has been a member of Liverpool FC since August 2011, will take over the responsibilities previously held by Susan Black, who will retire at the end of the current season after 14 years of service. Black’s departure marks the end of an era, having contributed significantly to the club’s communications function, as well as serving on various boards, including Liverpool FC Women and the LFC Foundation.
Evans’ promotion comes at a time of significant growth and change for the club. In his new role, Evans will report directly to Jonathan Bamber, Liverpool’s Chief Legal Officer, who himself will be promoted to Chief Legal and External Affairs Officer. Bamber will also take on the additional responsibility of being a trustee for the LFC Foundation, the club’s official charity.

Evans brings a wealth of experience to his new position. Before joining Liverpool in 2011, Evans served as Head of Group Communications and Marketing at WYG Group. His previous roles include being Communications Manager at the Legal Services Commission and Employee Communications & PR Manager at Corus.
In addition to his professional experience, Evans further honed his management skills by completing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Liverpool John Moores University between 2019 and 2021, which solidified his leadership credentials. His long-standing involvement with Liverpool will serve him well in his new position, where he will oversee the club’s communications strategy across all areas, ensuring effective messaging both internally and externally.
Evans’ promotion is part of a broader effort by FSG to strengthen Liverpool’s leadership team and enhance the club’s operations across various departments. As Liverpool looks to continue building on its recent success, the strategic importance of strong communication, both with fans and the wider footballing community, cannot be overstated.
The reshuffling of Liverpool’s executive leadership is an indication that the club is looking not only at improving its on-pitch performance but also at maintaining a world-class operational structure off the pitch. Evans’ experience and deep understanding of the club will be crucial in navigating the challenges that lie ahead, ensuring that Liverpool continues to build its global brand and maintains its reputation as one of the premier football clubs in the world.
