South African striker Khanyisa Mayo faces an uncertain future with Algerian giants CR Belouizdad, just a season after putting pen to paper on a three-year deal from Cape Town City in August 2024.
The Chababists have reportedly attempted to mutually part ways with the center-forward ahead of the 2025/26 campaign in Algeria. However, Mayo’s entourage is understood to have insisted on receiving full compensation for the remaining years, resulting in talks hitting a snag.
An insider close the matter revealed to Foot Africa that former TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic, who is now at the helm of Belouizdad, is not impressed by the level of consistency and output shown by the player.
Moreover, sources have indicated that Belouizdad have exhausted their foreign quota with new recruits and now face the challenge of registering them, with their blockbuster season opener against MC Alger on the horizon.
Now, reports emerging from Algeria suggest that CS Constantine and MC Oran have lodged an official enquiry over the potential season-long loan of Mayo, with Ramovic and the club’s hierarchy keen to offload the 26-year-old.
Furthermore, Kaizer Chiefs retain a long-standing interest in Mayo, having missed out on his services by a few hours last season. Amakhosi are in the market for a striker to provide competition for the newly signed Flavio Silva. But while Chiefs cannot be ruled out in luring the player back to his native country, his agent previously refuted links to the Soweto giants. It’s unclear whether Nasreddine Nabi’s side will reignite their interest in Mayo.
Since completing a move to North Africa, Mayo has scored six goals and provided a solitary assist in the 41 games he featured in for Belouizdad. The Umtata-born star will be determined to replicate the form that earned him a move abroad.
