According to a report from L’Équipe, Coventry’s Norman Bassette (20) is on the verge of returning to France.

The Belgian striker, who was trained in SM Caen, left for the English side last summer on a four-year deal. However, it looks as if he will be back in the French second tier, with Stade de Reims close to securing him on a season-long loan.

The Coventry manager, Frank Lampard, was cagey when pressed on the matter, telling local outlet Coventry Live, “It’s possible that Norman goes on loan. It’s not done yet, so that’s it.”

Reims are keen to bolster their attacking options, as they look to try and return to the top flight at the first time of asking. The early signs suggest that goals have been in short supply so far, having scored only four times in four matches.

Reims currently sit fifth in the table, having won twice, drawn once, and lost once to Pau FC (who sit second on goal difference, but level on points with AS Saint-Étienne above them, and AS Nancy in third).
