Spurs produce dramatic late show after major scare to book progress into round four
Spurs remain alive in the Carabao Cup after the most dramatic late turnaround to stun Championship opponents Coventry. Tottenham initially looked to be heading out at the first hurdle in this competition for the second season in succession, with Ange Postecoglou no doubt braced for heavy criticism following what would have been a third consecutive defeat having again made wholesale changes after another north London derby loss to Arsenal, after which he doubled down on his claims about winning a trophy in his sophomore campaign.
Brandon Thomas-Asante stuck to give the lively hosts a deserved lead shortly after the hour mark, which appeared to be enough to send last season’s FA Cup semi-finalists into round four with another major Premier League upset. However, Djed Spence poked home an equaliser with two minutes left to play before fellow substitute Brennan Johnson then popped up with the all-important winner in stoppage time to avoid the lottery of penalties.
It was very far from convincing from Spurs, but in the end they did just enough to seal their place in next week’s draw. Follow Coventry vs Tottenham reaction live below!
