Milan van Ewijk's reported move to Wolfsburg from Coventry City is reportedly stalling.

Throughout this summer, it has seemed inevitable that Coventry City would lose defender Milan van Ewijk, but it now appears as though his move Wolfsburg has stalled at its final stages.

Having lost the play-off semi-final in dramatic circumstances last season, not much work had to be done for Frank Lampard and Coventry City to remain in a good position to mount a promotion challenge this season.

The Sky Blues have been reasonably quiet in the summer transfer window, but they have been magnificent at the start of the Championship campaign as they seek to sustain a push for Premier League football.

After a goalless draw with Hull City on the opening day and then a 1-0 defeat of Luton Town in the first round of the EFL Cup, Coventry have gone on to win by five goals to three at Pride Park against Derby County before demolishing Queens Park Rangers by seven goals to one at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Coventry will believe they are already in an excellent position in terms of their squad, with a bit of business to be done, and they could be about to have the boost of keeping Van Ewijk, too.

Coventry handed Milan van Ewijk transfer boost

According to Sacha Tavolieri, via his X account, the deal to take Milan van Ewijk from Coventry City to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg this month is now stalling.

It had been reported by Tavolieri that Van Ewijk was set to move from England to Germany for a fee in the region of £8.64 million with £1.725 million in additional bonuses.

It has been believed that Van Ewijk had agreed to a four-year contract at the Volkswagen Arena and talks between the clubs were at an advanced stage, but some final details have been unable to be agreed upon.

That has led to Wolfsburg now prioritising on their pursuit of Olympique Lyonnais defender Sael Kumbedi, who, like Van Ewijk, is a right full-back and a right wing-back.

Van Ewijk, who behan his career with Excelsir Maassluis before playing for ADO Den Haag and Cambuur, joined Coventry in the summer of 2023 from Eredivisie side Heerenveen, and the former Netherlands U21 international has gone on to make over 100 appearances for Coventry.

Despite his departure being widely expected for a while, Van Ewijk has remained in the Coventry squad, and has started all three of their matches so far this season.

Coventry could be busy in the final week of the window

Coventry have already seemingly planned ahead with the potential departure of Van Ewijk, with City having already brought in Kaine Kesler-Hayden from Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.

As well as Kesler-Hayden, they have also brought in Miguel Angel Brau on a free transfer from Granada and Carl Rushworth on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Coventry could be quite busy in the final week or so of the window, too, with other departures possible alongside Van Ewijk, with Southampton having previously been said to be interested in midfielder Jack Rudoni.
