A clash between Joaquin Correa and Sam Beukema could represent “the present against the future” of Inter Milan.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight the potential significance of the battle.

Inter Milan take on Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara this evening.

In the Nerazzurri starting eleven for the Serie A clash will be Joaquin Correa. The 30-year-old will get the nod with Marcus Thuram out injured.

And the player who will be marking Correa is likely to be 26-year-old former AZ Alkmaar defender Sam Beukema.

Beukema joined Bologna in the summer of 2023. And he has been a stalwart of the Rossoblu’s defense as they have fought for Champions League football over the last couple seasons.

If one thing is clear regarding Correa’s future, it is that it won’t be at Inter Milan for long.

It came as something of a surprise that the Argentine stayed at the Nerazzurri last summer.

Correa’s time at Inter has largely been a flop. He joined from Lazio in 2021, but never managed to find his best form for more than a few fleeting instances.

Nevertheless, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has shown a willingness to rely on Joaquin Correa this season.

With an absolutely gruelling fixture list, Inzaghi needs all the squad depth he can get.

And this evening, with the other forwards either out or not at their best, the fresh Correa looks to be the right man to lead the line for Inter.

And Inzaghi will hope that, for a few more weeks at least, Correa can make his contribution.

On the other hand, Sam Beukema, the player who will be trying to stop Correa this evening, could see his future intersect with Inter very soon.

By all accounts, Beukema is a transfer target for Inter.

The Nerazzurri are aiming to rejuvenate an aging defense next summer. And Beukema is certainly one of the players who has convinced them the most.

For now, it is Correa who is representing the Nerazzurri shirt. And Beukema trying to stop him.

But in just a few months’ time, the situation could look very different.
