Liverpool’s resurgent form under Arne Slot has not only ignited hope among fans but also heightened expectations in the transfer market. The latest player linked with a move to Anfield is Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram. With his dazzling performances in Serie A this season, the French international has caught the eye of Europe’s elite clubs. Credit goes to Calcio Mercato for shedding light on this intriguing transfer scenario.
Marcus Thuram’s form this season has been nothing short of sensational. Scoring 12 goals already in Serie A, he is just shy of last season’s tally of 13, and we’re only halfway through the campaign. His transition from a wide forward to a ‘first striker’ has been seamless, a testament to his adaptability and growing maturity.

With Lautaro Martinez struggling in front of goal, Thuram has stepped up as Inter’s talisman. His ability to lead the line and deliver consistently has transformed Simone Inzaghi’s team into genuine title contenders. This evolution hasn’t gone unnoticed, especially among Premier League leaders Liverpool.
Under Arne Slot, Liverpool have been revitalised tactically. While the team boasts an array of attacking talent, a player with Thuram’s versatility could elevate them further. He offers the dual ability to operate as a central striker or drift wide, fitting seamlessly into Slot’s dynamic attacking system.
Beyond his versatility, Thuram’s high pressing and physicality align with Liverpool’s core principles. At just 26, he is entering his prime and could form a lethal partnership with Mo Salah and Darwin Núñez.
Thuram’s contract with Inter includes an €85 million release clause, which he has publicly stated he would not activate unilaterally. Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he clarified: “It will never happen that I leave Inter by taking advantage of the clause due to the relationship I have with everyone here. That figure is put there, but I will never be the only one to choose. And if something comes along, there will always be a discussion with the club.”
Despite his loyalty to Inter, Liverpool, alongside Paris Saint-Germain, are reportedly monitoring his situation. With PSG’s forwards struggling for form and Liverpool’s ambition to bolster their squad, a bidding war could be on the horizon.
Inter signed Thuram on a free transfer in 2023 after overcoming his knee injury concerns. Should a club meet the release clause, Inter stand to gain almost €80 million in profit. Such a capital gain could significantly strengthen their finances, making a potential sale all the more tempting.
Excited Liverpool fans have every reason to feel optimistic about the prospect of signing Marcus Thuram. His technical qualities, coupled with his ability to handle pressure, make him a dream addition to Arne Slot’s side. Imagine a front three with Thuram’s flair complementing Salah’s clinical edge and Núñez’s relentless energy.
However, scepticism is understandable. Liverpool’s midfield remains a work in progress, and allocating a significant budget to yet another forward may leave gaps elsewhere. Additionally, Thuram’s loyalty to Inter suggests he won’t push for a move, meaning Liverpool must convince both player and club with an exceptional offer.
That said, signing a player of Thuram’s calibre would undoubtedly send a message to Liverpool’s rivals. It’s an investment not just for the present but for the long-term competitiveness of the squad. With Thuram on board, Liverpool could dominate both domestically and in Europe.
