Teun Koopmeiners will return to San Siro to take on AC Milan on Saturday night, but last year he could have ended up calling it his new home.
Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via JuventusNews24) revealed some background on Koopmeiners in view of the game between Milan and Juventus this weekend, namely when he could have ended up with the Rossoneri.
Summer 2023 was the first time the Dutchman had seriously considered the possibility of leaving Atalanta, and he did so with an eye on Milan who were circling at the time having just sold Sandro Tonali for a club-record fee.
The Rossoneri attempted an approach but Atalanta made it clear that they wanted at least €50m to sell, and they would not budge. The Milan management then decided to go all-in to get a deal done for Tijjani Reijnders instead.
Reijnders has certainly been a positive signing, while Koopmeiners ended up joining Juve in the most recent summer window. Having battled an injury, the 26-year-old is ready to start showing why the Bianconeri paid over €50m to land him.
His record against Milan is good, given that he has three goals and one assists in seven games against them.
