Laura Coombs says she feels ‘back to her best’ ahead of the 2025/26 season and is excited by what City can achieve in the new campaign.

The midfielder has signed a 12-month contract extension, taking her into her seventh campaign at the Joie Stadium.

Coombs is one of City’s longest serving players and, after a campaign frustrated by injuries, is ready to attack the new campaign with a renewed energy.

She’s looking forward to see what the new season holds for the Blues.

“It feels like there’s a lot going in behind the scenes and not just what you see on the pitch,” the midfielder explained.

“I feel like it’s a really good time to be involved with the Club. The Club’s only going to go one way so I’m very happy to be here.

“We were really unfortunate with injuries and events that unfolded. I think they will put us in better stead for this year, definitely.

“I had a bit of a recurring one, but I think I’ve done a lot of work in the gym and on the pitch to make sure I’m a bit more robust this year and I definitely feel back to full fitness and strength.”

Coombs added that she and her City team-mates have enjoyed the first few weeks under new Head Coach, Andrée Jeglertz.

The Swede was appointed ahead of this summer’s European Championships, where he took charge of Denmark, after over two decades managing in the men’s and women’s game.

Our midfielder feels the team have responded well to Jeglertz’s methods, and that our ambitions of silverware heading into the new season are as strong as ever.

“They’ve [training sessions] been different, but we’re adapting and really enjoying working with him,” Coombs said of Jeglertz.

“It’s nice to have some fresh voices and opinions as well. Everyone is really enjoying it.

“Obviously we’ve had a little bit of change over the summer, but I don’t think that’s going to affect where everyone is wanting to be finishing in the league and everyone wants to go as far as they can in the cups.

“This Club should be at the top and if we’re saying anything less than cup wins and top of the league, we’re doing it a disservice.”
