Last week, a surge of speculation washed over the football and business communities alike, suggesting that Elon Musk, the tech mogul known for his ventures into space and electric vehicles, might be eyeing a significant new venture: purchasing Liverpool Football Club. This story, first reported by the British newspaper Weekend Sport, hinted at a whopping £6 billion acquisition. According to the report, Musk’s motivation stemmed from a desire to broaden his influence in the UK, marking Liverpool FC as his entry point.
Musk’s connection to Liverpool is surprisingly deep-rooted. His grandmother, Cora Robinson, was born in the upscale Mossley Hill area in 1923, and a young Elon often visited Merseyside with his father, Errol Musk, in the 1970s, forging early bonds with the region.

In a recent interview on Times Radio, Errol Musk was pressed about the veracity of these claims. The elder Musk’s responses have only added fuel to the speculative fire. When asked directly whether his son harbored ambitions to purchase Liverpool FC, Errol Musk playfully dodged, suggesting that any confirmation might inadvertently “raise the price.”
He did, however, acknowledge his son’s affection for the club, noting, “Oh yes, [he has expressed a desire], but that doesn’t mean he’s buying it.” This admission is intriguing, given that the entrepreneur’s net worth, as of January 2025, is estimated at a staggering £332 billion, making the purchase financially feasible.
The familial and historical ties to Liverpool are notable. Besides the family lineage, Errol Musk reminisced about the family’s connections with the Beatles, which have contributed to a deeper affinity with the city. “We are attached to Liverpool, you know…,” he remarked, highlighting a longstanding relationship that transcends mere business interest.
However, the prospect of Elon Musk taking over Liverpool FC is not without its controversies. The club is renowned for its community spirit and emphasis on inclusivity, values that some fans fear could be at risk under new, especially corporate, ownership. The debate continues as supporters weigh the potential benefits of Musk’s business acumen against the risks of commercializing the club’s ethos.

The potential acquisition of Liverpool by a figure like Elon Musk is not just a financial transaction; it would be a cultural shift. As the current manager, Arne Slot, continues to shape the team’s future, the ownership question looms large. Would Musk’s leadership align with the club’s celebrated tradition of togetherness and community focus?
While it’s clear that Musk’s potential interest in Liverpool FC is backed by a mix of personal connections and business strategy, the implications of such a move are profound. For now, the Liverpool community and fans worldwide are left to ponder the possibilities.
As the story develops, the key question remains: How would Elon Musk’s unique brand of visionary entrepreneurship translate to the storied fields of Anfield? Only time will tell if these early ties lead to a new chapter in the history of Liverpool Football Club.
