The brass at La Liga giants Real Madrid are readying one final effort to secure the signature of Real Sociedad star Martín Zubimendi.

That’s according to Diario AS, who have on Sunday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Spain’s capital.

Real Madrid remain on the lookout for reinforcements in the middle of the park with a view to next season.

This comes at the direct request of incoming head coach Xabi Alonso, eager to add some guarantees to his engine room ranks following the departures of both Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić.

Los Blancos have scoured the market for alternative options, but have ultimately landed right back at the doorstep of their first-choice target, Zubimendi.

Real Sociedad’s midfield standout is of course widely expected to be on the move this summer.

In fact, a whole host of sources across the continent have gone as far as to assure that a deal to take the Spanish international to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal is already complete.

Until an official announcement is released on the part of the Gunners, though, Real Madrid will remain vigilant.
