Cole Palmer reveals which position he wants to play for England | OneFootball

Cole Palmer has maintained his confidence in starting for England at Euro 2024, admitting he's happy playing anywhere across the Three Lions' forward line.

Palmer netted 25 goals and provided 15 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea last season. He also established himself as the club's primary penalty taker, displaying remarkable composure and accuracy, scoring nine times from nine attempts from the spot.

Many fans argued that such impressive figures should have propelled the 21-year-old into the Three Lions' starting lineup, but Gareth Southgate has favoured Jude Bellingham behind Harry Kane, while Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka occupy the wider positions.

It remains to be seen if Palmer, who often lined up for Chelsea on the right side of the forward line, will begin Saturday's quarter-final against Switzerland. Fans are eager for Gareth Southgate to consider him, and the player himself is keen to contribute in any position close to the goal.

Asked where he'd like to play for England, Palmer told talkSPORT: "Anywhere near the net! Maybe not on the left but maybe as a right forward.

"I don’t mind the left. Sometimes I like it when I go across the pitch then go on the left for a bit to get the ball in. Sometimes it is pretty fun on the left."

Palmer made a notable impact as a substitute during the final group game against Slovenia and was once again called on from the bench during the last-16 clash with Slovakia, replacing Kieran Trippier in a move which saw Arsenal's Saka drop back into defence.

Bellingham received the lion's share of praise at full-time, however, having taken England to extra-time with a spectacular goal that was swiftly followed by Kane's winner.
