Cole Palmer has highlighted Chelsea’s squad morale as a big factor behind their recent form as the Blues beat Tottenham on Sunday.

Chelsea made it five wins in a row in all competitions as they beat their rivals 4-3 despite a disastrous start which saw them 2-0 down inside the first 12 minutes after Marc Cucurella slipped twice.

Jadon Sancho pulled one back with a great strike and the Blues completed their comeback in the second thanks to two penalties from Palmer and a nice finish from Enzo Fernandez.

The win moved Chelsea into outright second place following Arsenal’s draw with Fulham and four points behind leaders Liverpool with the Merseyside Derby postponed on Saturday.

After going three games without a goal contribution Palmer now has four goals in his last three games and 11 in total just two behind Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah.

Palmer made yet more history as he set the record for the most consecutive penalties scored in the Premier League without missing, and his second was an audacious Panenka.

Palmer has scored 11 league goals this season.

Paul Merson was full of praise for the England international after the game and described him as phenomenal after he put in another man of the match performance.

Palmer is showing no signs of slowing down and you wouldn’t bet against him matching his feats from last season on his current form.

The 22-year-old was delighted with the win and highlighted the morale within the squad as a reason why the Blues are doing well.

“It’s good we got three points, but we started slow,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“We knew we would create chances, and we did that to get the three points. We knew those two mistakes were silly, and we can’t do anything about that now. They didn’t create much other than from our mistakes.
