Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo has showered praise on the Reds summer signing Jeremie Frimpong, saying the pace of his fellow Netherlands international has blown him away.

Liverpool signed the 24-year-old from Bayer Leverkusen in May for an initial £35 million, and he has come in as a direct replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold at the Anfield club after convincing manager Arne Slot of his quality.

Frimpong has featured in all the five games the Merseyside club have played so far this season and he will be ready to hit the ground running when the new Premier League campaign kicks off on August 15 against Bournemouth.

The Dutchman has big shoes to fill as Alexander-Arnold was one of the best right-backs in the English top-flight while with the Reds, and Gakpo is convinced that he has what it takes to succeed at Liverpool.

Frimpong spent nine years in the academy and youth ranks of Manchester City but did not get to break into the first-team, leaving for Celtic in 2019 before joining Leverkusen in 2021.

The Liverpool full-back won the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup in his only full season with the Hoops and also left the Bundesliga with the league title, German Cup and the German Super Cup.

He will now hope to help the Reds successfully defend the Premier League title and help them win the Champions League in 2025-26.

Liverpool appeared ready to challenge for quadruple at one point last season and will look to go again when the new campaign starts.

They have added goalkeeping duo Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman to their ranks so far this summer, while Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike have joined Frimpong as outfield signings.

Liverpool are not done yet and are still hoping to further bolster their attacking ranks, with Newcastle United hitman Alexander Isak on their radar.

Signing the Sweden international striker will make them clear favourites to win the Premier League title, and the fans are praying the move gets done before the summer transfer window shuts.
