It appears that Chelsea have well and truly hijacked one club’s attempt to sign a new player during this summer’s transfer window.
Chelsea beat Benfica in the first set of knockout rounds in the Club World Cup on Saturday night, but it was far from easy and also, very far from drama!
Enzo Maresca labelled it a joke that the game got suspended for two hours due to sever weather conditions and slammed the tournament location as a result, and he really does have a point here.
And then came a flurry of late goal with Benfica equalising deep into stoppage time through a penalty to send it into extra time. Chelsea then bagged a bunch of goals to go on and win the game before it got to penalties!

According to multiple reports now with every outlet saying the same, Chelsea have agreed a deal with Brighton for striker Joao Pedro to head to Stamford Bridge this summer and it even looks like he can take part in the latter stages of the Club World Cup for The Blues.
Chelsea worked fast on Pedro, and it looks like they had to because he was at one point heading to join Newcastle!
So it looks like Chelsea have well and truly hijacked Newcastle’s move to sign Pedro.
UOL in Brazil report Newcastle had reached an agreement with Brighton to sign Joao Pedro, but the desire to play for Chelsea spoke louder, and the Brazilian made a decision in the last few days.
Sounds like Chelsea did well to work this one and convince the player!
