Clement admits big injury for Rangers star as he changes his mind

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has been caught telling porkies again after changing his story over John Souttar’s absence on Sunday against St Mirren.

Rangers’ boss was asked pre-match why the Scotland international wasn’t in the starting lineup to face the Buddies, and said:

“John Souttar has already played a lot of games, also with the national team, very intensive games. So he had a few minor things and his body was really tired, so the medical staff and performance staff said that it was a really big risk for him to play today in case he got injured. We could not take that risk.”

So making it pretty clear it was wear and tear with Souttar, suggesting that they just saved him for Wednesday through pure resting because he was very tired more than anything.

But post-match this changed dramatically:

“John couldn’t play today. The medical staff and performance staff were really clear about that, that if we put him on the pitch it was a big risk for an injury. So that’s why I didn’t do it. Will he be OK for Wednesday? That I will see in the next few days.”

So from just resting him from wear and tear, it’s now turned into a minor ‘injury’ turning into a ‘serious’ issue and a ‘big risk’ and he might not actually be fit for midweek either.

It’s safe to see why it’s hard to believe a single word Clement says these days, changing his story, spouting nonsense most of the time, in his case it doesn’t come across in the rather ‘seedy’ way Michael Beale used to lie out of habit, but rather in Clement’s instance it’s more literally not having a clue what he’s doing and going with what seems right to him at any moment in time.

Some have argued in his favour saying English isn’t his first language, but then if they’re defending him on that basis doesn’t that make his communication with the first team squad a bit of a problem as well?

Either way, Clement says one thing one minute then something different the next.

Keeping track of it is quite difficult to say the least.
