Roma manager Claudio Ranieri sat down to preview the return leg of the Derby della Capitale with Lazio.
In today’s press conference, Ranieri addressed the media in view of Sunday’s game against Marco Baroni’s team.
“Tomorrow I expect a Lazio side with a good gameplan and strong individuals. I saw the cup match with Bodo, I think Lazio can turn the result around in the second leg.”
“Baroni is doing a great job and Lazio are having a great season,” he continued.
“Since I arrived I said that I would put the team on the field to win and I will do this on Sunday as well. Ambitions? To do the best we can. Always, regardless of the result. What matters is to fight.”
“I always look to the future, it will be a difficult match and for me it’s enough that the boys fight like crazy, then if we manage to win even with a stroke of luck I’ll be happy.”
“Cristante? He’s a valid player and a complete midfielder. He is always in my first eleven list. Pellegrini? If I say I saw the spark in him in recent days, you will put him in the lineup for Sunday. So I won’t say it.”
“Paredes is an exceptional playmaker and for me he is an important player. His future will depend on the coach who arrives.”
“Is this my last derby? I said I will retire so yes, this will be the last one.”
“The gap with the other big teams? Rome wasn’t built overnight. It won’t take a century to bring the team back to the Champions League, but we’re doing our best to get closer.”
“Given the difficulties we had on the market, we made some very good choices. I think they are all players worthy of Roma, but everything can be improved and it will be up to the new coach to decide whether they are suitable or not. For me, they are players I can count on.”
“Gourna-Douath? I have worked with him a lot to improve certain aspects of his game. He will have seven games to prove his worth and we’ll see about his buy option.”
“Both Pisilli and Baldanzi lack experience but they will represent Roma’s future.”
