Claude Makelele names player Chelsea should sign who’s “one of the best in the world” | OneFootball

Former Blue Claude Makelele believes Mike Maignan is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and hopes Chelsea can agree a deal.

The Blues have already been busy this summer and have completed the signing of Liam Delap for £30m from Ipswich.

More new faces are expected to follow with Chelsea looking for a versatile forward, centre back and left winger to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Makelele a big fan of Mike Maignan

Whilst a striker was the main priority, supporters would really like to see a new keeper given the uncertainty between the sticks last season.

Chelsea wanted to sign Maignan, but were unable to agree a deal after not being prepared to match Milan’s valuation of £20-£25m.

The Blues valued Maignan at £12.6m and it remains to be seen if they will return later this summer for the France international.

It’s been reported Chelsea will only return for Maignan if Milan drop their asking price, whilst the Blues are said to have other keepers on their radar.

Makelele has shared his thoughts on Maignan and believes Chelsea need a new goalkeeper if they are to fight for the title.

“Maignan is one of the best in the world right now and I think Milan won’t want their best goalkeeper gone,” he told BBC Sport.

“But if Chelsea can take him, it’s better, because to win trophies you need a good goalkeeper. You look at PSG and they had a young squad but a great goalkeeper in Gianluigi Donnarumma.

“Chelsea need a goalkeeper, striker and maybe winger to fight for the Champions League and Premier League next season.”

Djordje Petroivc set to leave

Whilst Maignan could still arrive it’s almost certain Djordje Petrovic will leave despite having an excellent season with Strasbourg.
