In what was a hugely memorable afternoon, Jess Park struck a superb double while Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw became our all-time record scorer as City went top of the Barclays Women’s Super League after a memorable 3-1 Etihad derby win over Manchester United.
In front of a crowd of more than 40,000, Gareth Taylor’s side made it 11 league wins in a row with England international Park leading the charge with two first half goals on 37 and 45 minutes.
Shaw then took centre stage immediately after the restart, latching onto Park’s inviting assist before blasting home to register her 68th career goal for City to see her overtake Georgia Stanway and become our all-time leading scorer.
United pulled one back through Hannah Blundell but it was too little, too late for the Red Devils.
City progressed into the fifth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with a deserved 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town at the Joie Stadium in our last game.
Jill Roord broke the deadlock 20 minutes with a low driven shot into the bottom left corner while Laura Coombs then doubled our lead in the second half with a volley.
Vivianne Miedema, returning from injury, added a third.
