Manchester City are delighted to announce the signing of Tijjani Reijnders on a five-year deal.
The 26-year-old Netherlands international joins from AC Milan, where he has spent the last two seasons.
An energetic yet classy operator capable of playing in an attacking or defensive role, Reijnders was named Serie A’s Best Midfielder in 2024/25.
That accolade came after netting 15 goals in 54 games, more than doubling his previous best tally in a single campaign.
Whether it’s picking out a pass, bursting into space or shooting from range, Reijnders has demonstrated an exceptional all-round game in one of Europe’s toughest leagues.
Before moving to Milan, he made his professional debut at PEC Zwolle in his homeland ahead of becoming a regular at AZ Alkmaar.
Since first truly making his mark at AZ in 2020/21, Reijnders has amassed extensive experience at both club and international level.
After making his senior Netherlands debut in 2023, he played all six games at Euro 2024 as his nation reached the semi-finals.
He is now available for selection at this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.
Speaking fluent English, Reijnders was enthusiastic about the prospect of what he can achieve with City.
“I am ecstatic to be signing for Manchester City,” Reijnders said.
“City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players and outstanding facilities. Under Pep Guardiola, City have won so many titles, and I want to help keep that going with a lot more success in the coming years.
“It is also a dream come true to play in the Premier League. This league has seen many of the best Dutch players perform through the years and it’s an inspiration to follow in their footsteps.
“I am really looking forward to getting going, meeting the other players and showing the Manchester City fans what I can do.”
Director of Football Hugo Viana says he can’t wait to see Reijnders wearing sky blue.
“We are very happy that Tijjani has joined us, and we’re excited for him to join Pep’s squad,” he began.
“He arrives here with extensive top-level experience in Europe both at club level as well as on the international stage with the Netherlands.
“Tijjani adds extra energy, composure and creativity to our midfield and working with Pep and our coaches will only see him go from strength to strength.”
Everyone is delighted to welcome Tijjani to City and we all wish him well during his time here.
Watching Tijjani Reijnders play, his poise and elegance on the ball are immediately clear.
Built in the classic Dutch style, tall and lean, the midfielder is remarkably upright when in possession, giving him an air of composure and confidence that is striking to behold.
Across his time at AZ Alkmaar and AC Milan, he’s played in every role that can be asked of a central midfielder.
An electric turn of pace and astute reading of the game means he’s a vital asset defensively, but it’s going forward where Reijnders made his mark in 2024/25 – the best season of his career so far.
With 15 goals in 54 games, including 10 in Serie A, he more than doubled his previous best tally in a single campaign.
Even with his team-mates struggling for form around him, Reijnders was so impressive that he beat off considerable competition to be crowned Serie A’s Midfielder of the Year.
The goals came in all shapes and sizes, with Reijnders arriving late into the box to meet crosses, dribbling through the defence himself or striking the ball incredible ferociously from a distance.
That all came after a star turn at last summer’s European Championships, where he played all six games in a deeper role as Netherlands made it to the final four.
Having never previously been to a major tournament, it was a statement of intent from Reijnders that he belongs on the biggest stage.
Now, the 26-year-old will be looking to go that one step further and lift the biggest trophies in the club game with City.
