Chelsea's away form: a season of two halves

When Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca declared that his side were not yet ready to win the Premier League back in December, his players definitely seemed to take notice - and the Blues' away form in 2025 has left a lot to be desired.

Prior to the New Year, the Londoners ranked second - behind only eventual champions Liverpool - for away points won (20), away goals scored (23) and best away goal difference (+11) in the Premier League.

A 6-2 opening day win over Wolves at Molineux set the tone and further wins away at Bournemouth, West Ham, Leicester, Southampton and Spurs had some observers tipping Maresca's side as potential dark horses for the title.

However, a 2-0 defeat at Ipswich in late December set alarm bells ringing and, since the turn of the year, Chelsea have won just once away from home: against Fulham in April when a 93rd minute winner from Pedro Neto secured the Blues a 2-1 comeback victory.

Overall, however, Chelsea's away form in 2025 has been dire; their away statistics almost the polar opposite of those they recorded in the first half of the season.

The lowest scorers across the entire division away from home in 2025 with five goals, Chelsea have won just five points (only relegated Southampton have picked up fewer) and their overall goal difference away from Stamford Bridge stands at a miserable -8.

The Europa Conference League finallists do have a 100% record on their travels in Europe, but the deterioration in away results and performances is no doubt a concern to Maresca as his side prepare for three games which will shape the narrative regarding his first season in charge.

Currently fifth, the Blues are in a tight battle for a Champions League spot and they face Man Utd at home prior to trips to Nottingham Forest and then Wroclaw, in Poland, for their Europa League Conference final against Real Betis.

What is clear is that, to achieve their objectives, Chelsea badly need to banish their away day demons for those two final games.
