Chelsea take on FC Copenhagen in the first leg of their Europa Conference League last-16 tie tonight.
Enzo Maresca’s side breezed into the knockout rounds with a perfect record in the league phase. The West Londoners are heavy favourites to win the trophy and head to the Danish capital this evening aiming for progress.
Maresca will hope last week’s 4-0 win over Southampton can inject confidence into a Chelsea side that has struggled for form of late. The Blues have lost four of their last six games in all competitions and have dropped to fifth in the Premier League table.
FC Copenhagen lead The Danish Superliga and eliminated FC Heidenheim in extra-time during their playoff to reach this stage. There are familiar faces in the Copenhagen squad, including former Southampton winger Mohamed Elyounoussi and ex-West Ham goalkeeper Nathan Trott.
Cole Palmer is eligible to make his first European appearance of the campaign after being registered for the knockout stages. Trevoh Chalobah and January signing Mathis Amougou are also included.
Chelsea remain without Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke through injury. Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Robert Sanchez will start in goal despite being dropped from the team in the Premier League.
Chelsea predicted XI: Sanchez; James, Tosin, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Dewsbury-Hall; Sancho, Palmer, Neto; Nkunku.
FC Copenhagen host Chelsea in the Europa Conference League on Thursday 6th March 2025. Kick-off at Parken will be at 17:45 GMT.
FC Copenhagen vs Chelsea will be available to watch on TNT Sports 4 and Discovery+ UK.
