Matt Law’s piece today about the future of Dean Huijsen and his decreasing chances of joining Chelsea points out that, if they fail to land the Spain international, they have other options.

While Huijsen is number one target, they’re also looking at Marc Guehi and Jorrell Hato as alternatives.

Who Chelsea might shift in defensive reshuffle

They also already have a number of players on their books who they’re interested in moving on, as Law points out. “Space [for a new defender] will be made through the anticipated sae of Axel Disasi, while Trevoh Chalobah’s long term future remains a doubt.”

That’s very much in line with what we wrote about our options at the back. There’s even some talk that we could flip Tosin Adarabioyo for a quick profit. Most interesting in this piece is the mention of Wesley Fofana.

Enzo Maresca and Chelsea are “big fans”, but his injury record mean “the club would most likely listen to any sizeable offers for him.”

The problem is that those offers don’t sound very likely – “there are doubts over whether any club could commit a big fee to trying to sign Fofana because of his fitness problems,” Law writes.

“But his Chelsea future could be put in doubt if a club from Saudi Arabia sees an opportunity to pursue.”

That seems like wishful thinking to us, frankly.

Blues face another busy summer of comings and goings

That’s just some of the possible outgoings in defence, all of this is before we get onto the likes of Carney Chukwuemeka, Joao Felix, Raheem Sterling and so on.

It looks set to be another exceptionally busy summer at Stamford Bridge. And once again, we’re hoping for some miracle Saudi money to bail out our bad decisions…
