Chelsea sit in fourth place on the Premier League table and face a fight to hold on to that position for the remaining nine games of the season.

Blues head coach Enzo Maresca has done a fantastic job at Stamford Bridge despite the club lacking crucial profiles within the squad.

Chelsea do not have a reliable goalkeeper, a leading defender, or a lethal striker up top. The latter problem has particularly handicapped the Blues.

The West Londoners create chances but struggle to finish them, with Nicolas Jackson particularly guilty of fluffing his lines. Chelsea were supposed to give Maresca a top-quality nine last summer and raised hopes as they pursued Victor Osimhen.

However, Chelsea could not get a deal over the line with Napoli, and he joined Galatasaray on loan instead, leaving Maresca with only teenage striker Marc Guiu and Jackson.

Chelsea should go for Osimhen again

Chelsea still need a top striker this summer. It is a priority, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Blues should return to the negotiating table for Osimhen, who has been in sparkling form in 2025.

Osimhen showed why he is one of the best in the world, maintaining razor-sharp focus to steer in an Ademola Lookman cross for the opener.

The former Lille and Wolfsburg striker beat Rwanda’s backline with sheer pace and force before deftly chipping the goalkeeper for his brace. The sort of finishing Chelsea have missed this season.

Osimhen is now up to 25 goals for Nigeria, 12 away from all-time top scorer Rashidi Yekini (37). He has bagged 26 goals and five assists in 30 appearances across all competitions for Galatasaray and currently tops the Super Lig scoring chart with 20 goals.

Chelsea made a mistake not snapping up Osimhen last summer. They need to rectify it before next season. The 26-year-old is the perfect candidate to spearhead the Blues to titles next season and beyond.

They will face competition for his signature, but they should back themselves to get it done.
