Further talks between Chelsea and Xavi Simons’ entourage will take place today, according to Florian Plettenberg. This comes after Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday night that the Dutchman would be open to joining the Premier League club.
After missing out on Champions League football, and European football completely, Simons is open to leaving RB Leipzig this summer. Should that be the case, Simons prefers a move to the Premier League, but the 22-year-old is also a topic at Bayern Munich.
According to Transfermarkt, RB Leipzig would settle for a fee in the region of €70m, a €20m return on the player they signed on a permanent basis from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024 following a successful loan spell.
Plettenberg further reports that Faustino, Simons’ brother, will also partake in the discussions with the goal being a verbal agreement before talks between the two clubs.
A sale of Simons would significantly help Leipzig balance the books when it comes to their spending this summer. So far, they have spent €92m and do not look like stopping. The 22-year-old’s departure would greatly reduce their net spend.
