Chelsea sporting directors have changed their mind over key position and will chase £16m former target

Graeme Bailey has been doing great work for TBR Football recently digging up serious transfer exclusives, and today is no different.

He’s talking goalkeepers and Chelsea, a subject which never runs out of steam. The dual failures of Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen in nets for the Blues this year makes another signing this summer look almost inevitable, and there are a few names on the table.

Bailey claims that Chelsea “are doing their work on targets who could potentially replace” the pair, and they’ve narrowed it down to 3 really promising young options.

Named in the mix are Parma’s Zion Suzuki and outstanding Marco Carnesecchi from Atalanta.

The top option, however, is inevitably the Brighton goalkeeper. Again. We bought Sanchez from the Seagulls and now want the man they bought to replace him. Bart Verbruggen chucked one in when we faced the Seagulls a few weeks ago, but has otherwise apparently been excellent.

His ability to play with his feet is considered top level, and he’s gaining Premier League experience with every passing week. The piece claims that Chelsea looked closely at him before he went to Brighton for £16m

Chelsea hierarchy change their mind on goalkeeper options

This piece claims that Chelsea’s hierarchy “are in agreement that a new number one is required this summer, which would contradict the many briefings we’ve seen over the course of the season which have held that those in charge are happy with the current options, and are expecting young Mike Penders to develop into a world class option.

There’s also the question of Djordje Petrovic, who was relatively solid as our number one last year and looks to have improved hugely on loan with our sister club Strasbourg this year.
