Chelsea are reportedly set to make another hire for the boardroom team in the shape of a high profile executive from the NBA in America.

The club have made a number of hires in boardroom and executive positions since the new owners came in as they looked to revamp operations from top to bottom at the club, and that does not just mean the gutting of the squad that walks out onto the pitch.

Gupta in action

The Athletic are reporting that The executive vice president of basketball operations at the Minnesota Timberwolves, Sachin Gupta, is set to leave the NBA franchise to take up a role at Chelsea.

The 42-year-old has been in that position at the Timberwolves since 2021, having joined them two years earlier to assist in the collective bargaining agreement and team analytics.

Gupta spent five seasons in the Timberwolves front office, and he has been an important part of the team’s rise to contention in the Western Conference.

He has been heavily involved in strategic and analytics for the NBA club, and you’d suspect that this is what he will be getting involved with at Chelsea should this one get over the line as expected.

Chelsea have been heavily focused on data-led recruitment since the new owners came in, so Gupta would be a good addition to this side of things.
