Blues want duo signed before summer window briefly closes ahead of the Club World Cup

Chelsea must wait to learn whether a £15million offer will be enough to sign Mike Maignan as they also continue talks over Jamie Gittens.

The Blues are keen on signing France No1 Maignan, who is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract at AC Milan.

Chelsea’s £10m valuation of the 29-year-old is not close to Milan’s, who ideally want £25m, but they are hoping to reach a compromise with a revised £15m bid.

If a deal can be agreed, Maignan will become Chelsea’s new first-choice goalkeeper. He will replace Robert Sanchez, who has improved in recent months but endured an erratic first season as No1 overall.

The Blues are aware that Maignan wants to join and view it as a potentially cost-effective way of levelling up in the goalkeeping department.

The futures of Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic are unclear, while Filip Jorgensen is not expected to head into next season as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga for £5m, with the Spaniard aware that he has no future at Stamford Bridge after a loan spell at Bournemouth.

Manchester City are also now being linked with a move for Chelsea’s third-choice ‘keeper Marcus Bettinelli as a replacement for the departing Scott Carson.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are in ongoing talks with Borussia Dortmund over another player keen to make the move to Stamford Bridge in Gittens.

The England Under-21 international could also be available, but Chelsea know they must do more to test the German club’s resolve after having a £29.5m opening bid rejected.

Dortmund may ask for as much as £50m for the 20-year-old winger, who, after Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham before him, is the latest Englishman whose career has flourished at Signal Iduna Park.

Chelsea and Dortmund are both competing at this month’s Club World Cup and have until Tuesday night’s transfer deadline to get a deal done if he is to be available to compete in the competition for Enzo Maresca’s side.

On Monday, Chelsea confirmed the signing of 19-year-old defender Mamadou Sarr from sister club Strasbourg for a fee of £12m on a deal running until 2033.
