We’re at the deepest point of the international break now, with more than a week since Chelsea played their last game and more than a week until they play their next.

Get through this and we’ve got an exciting run to the end of the season, with a tough Premier League run in, a Conference League to be won, and then a Club World Cup jaunt to America to look forward to.

Despite the nasty looking fixtures in the league – Tottenham, Brentford and Fulham away, and games against a resurgent Everton and a title-chasing Liverpool all come up in the next 5 weeks – there is a lot of optimism as Chelsea welcome back key attacking options Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson, and have Romeo Lavia and Wesley Fofana 100% and ready to start games again.

Colwill must step up his game again and show his huge potential is still there

Levi Colwill makes his competitive England debut.

One player we hope takes advantage of next 3 months is Levi Colwill. He’s played consistently all year, but his form has been patchy at best. The injuries to Fofana and the goalkeeper farrago haven’t helped him, but we still expected a little more from a player we still rate as one of the best defenders in his age group in the Premier League.

All eyes will be on England’s game this evening, where Colwill could start for the first time under new boss Thomas Tuchel with a huge chance to impress. Let’s hope a strong end to the season for Levi starts at Wembley tonight.

After praising the defender’s “approach and mentality”, sporting director Laurence Stewart said last year that he expects the 22 year old to be a “regular England international” before long. Tonight – and the next couple of months – Colwill can take a major step towards that.
