Chelsea moved to the top of the Premier League table - for now - as they overcame west London rivals Fulham in a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

Fulham thought they had taken the lead through teenager Josh King, but the goal was later chalked off controversially when the referee checked the pitchside monitor and adjudged Rodrigo Muniz to have impeded Trevoh Chalobah in the build-up.

But on the stroke of half-time, Joao Pedro scored a fine header from a corner, and Chelsea doubled their lead in the second half when they earned a penalty for a handball by Ryan Sessegnon, which Enzo Fernandez struck calmly down the middle.

Dom Smith was at Stamford Bridge to rate the Chelsea players’ performances…

Robert Sanchez 6

Had very little to do, but was beaten by King for Fulham’s disallowed goal.

Malo Gusto 7

Made a poor cross early on but recovered well and made one fantastic tackle to deny Fulham a goalscoring opportunity.

Tosin Adarabioyo 7

Very composed on the ball and almost scored a header early on. Good in the air defensively, too.

Trevoh Chalobah 8

Chelsea’s best player on a day that was tougher than the eventual scoreline made it look. Barely lost the ball, made one or two killer passes, and tackled at crucial moments.

Marc Cucurella 6

Made some important interceptions for Chelsea. Didn’t attack as much because of the shift in shape due to Cole Palmer’s absence.

Moises Caicedo 6

A quiet game from the Ecuadorian, but he still made his presence known with one flying block and a couple of 50-50 wins, which are his bread and butter.

Estevao Willian 7

Made real inroads in the Fulham half, beating players. But sometimes needs to release the ball a little earlier than he does. Has time on his side, fortunately.

Enzo Fernandez 7

Had a very difficult first half and appeared annoyed despite assisting the opener. Then took a nerveless penalty in the second as his performance improved. A goal and an assist. Not bad.

Joao Pedro 7

His fine start to life at Chelsea continued, with the Brazilian scoring a superb header on the stroke of half-time and remaining a nuisance in the second half.

Pedro Neto 5

Not the Portuguese’s best game. Struggled to make an impact on either wing.

Liam Delap 5

Had rotten luck as he went down feeling his hamstring after chasing a long ball and had to be subbed off just 15 minutes in.

Subs

Tyrique George (Delap, 15’) 6

His future is up in the air, but the youngster was brought on for Delap and fared well, even having a half-chance to score from a corner.

Jamie Gittens (Estevao, 67’) 6

Came on and made one nice jockeying run, forcing a corner. Quite quiet though.

Reece James (Neto, 80’) N/A

Andrey Santos (George, 80’) N/A

Not used: Jorgensen, Essugo, Hato, Fofana, Acheampong.
