It’s the 21st day in May – time to check out how our number 21 is getting on this month.
Well, funnily enough we don’t actually have one at the moment. The last player to wear the shirt was Ben Chilwell, who last worse it back at the end of September against Barrow in the League Cup, his only minutes of the season for the Blues.
After it was made very clear by Chelsea that he wasn’t part of Enzo Maresca’s plans, the left back was frozen out pretty thoroughly for the first half of the season after no permanent move could be found for him in the summer. When January came around, he was finally allowed a loan move to Crystal Palace.

So how has his last month been? Pretty damn good, we’d say, especially compared to those months which came before. He got his first start of the Premier League season last night and scored a goal, and that came off the back of winning the FA Cup against Man City at the weekend. Chilly didn’t get in the team for that game, but we’re not sure he will be too worried about that. After coming out on the losing side in a few finals with us, he will have been happy to be able to celebrate a Wembley win.
It was a struggle to sell Chilwell last summer – hence why he ended up still in the squad for the first half of the season. We’re not sure Palace will want to buy him outright, given he never ended up becoming a regular starter for them, but hopefully someone else will take a punt on him this summer and allow the 28 year old to get his career back on track.
