Pochettino’s position at Stamford Bridge is in the balance, despite overseeing a late-season surge to finish sixth and qualify for Europe.

Chelsea have sounded out Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim and Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna as potential managerial replacements, amid uncertainty on Pochettino’s future.

Pochettino has this week been due to meet with Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, as well as sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, to review the season.

Chelsea’s owners are determined to drive the Blues back to the top of the English and European game, and without delay, seeking to have a team that they feel fully reflects their sizeable investment into the senior squad.

But while much of the early commentary around the end-of-season review was focused around Chelsea assessing Pochettino, the 52-year-old coach will also take the chance to evaluate his employers.

Pochettino will be a coach in high demand should he depart Chelsea this summer, with a host of elite clubs in England and Europe either already looking for a new manager or seriously weighing up a change.

The former Tottenham boss was among the final names considered when Manchester United appointed Erik ten Hag in 2022, and the new United ownership set-up is understood to continue to hold Pochettino in high esteem.

Pochettino will want to hear detail on Chelsea’s transfer plans with homegrown talents set to be sold

Ten Hag’s position remains at best uncertain, and an available Pochettino would be likely to feature on a shortlist for the role should United find themselves seeking a new boss this summer.

Chelsea will continue to back their two sporting directors to spearhead the club’s recruitment and transfer strategy, with the Blues already active this summer in striking an initial £29.5million deal for Brazilian teen sensation Estevao Willian.

Pochettino will want to hear detail on Chelsea’s transfer plans though, especially if the Blues press on with plans to sell homegrown talents like Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah.

Chelsea's new structure is still bedding in, with Blues chiefs still adding staff to their set-up and fleshing out detail in terms of responsibilities, leaving Pochettino keen to see how the beefed-up logistics in action.

Pochettino steered Chelsea to just one defeat in their last 15 Premier League matches, turning 11th place in April to a sixth-place finish.

Pochettino is thought to be ready to tell the Chelsea board that he is confident of continuing his trend of delivering an improved second season, as he has in all his previous managerial roles.
