Chelsea are rattling on with their summer, making signings and missing out on others.

Liam Delap is in, Mike Maignan will not be. Jamie Gittens is ticking along in the background. There also seems likely to be an addition at centre back.

Today a new rumour has surfaced – CaughtOffside have said that we’re now looking at Nottingham Forest’s exceptional England midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White. After 7 goals and 10 assists almost fired the Tricky Trees to the Champions League there’s been no shortage of the England star, with Man City the most heavily linked so far.

Still just 25, Gibbs-White would cost a bomb, especially as he’s establishing himself with Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions. Coming to Chelsea to play in the Champions League would hopefully tempt him, but there’s no pathway to a deal we can see right now.

How roaming midfielder could fit into Chelsea’s system

While it’s true that Chelsea are pretty stocked in central midfield following the arrival of Dario Essugo and Andrey Santos this summer plus (hopefully) the end of Romeo Lavia’s injury issues, MGW can offer a lot in other areas too.

Imagine him playing one of the wider attacking roles. He doesn’t have electric pace but he’s got the mobility to play wide and has done it plenty of times before. He could play wide and come inside as we saw Cole Palmer and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall do at times last season.

When a player this good is out there on the market, it’s always tempting to try and figure out how you would squeeze them in. This deal feels a long way off, and we’d need to see some big names discuss it before we get too serious, but it’s a dream for sure.
