Chelsea have increased their efforts to sign Joao Pedro from Brighton after agreeing a deal for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.
Gittens will undergo a medical at Chelsea and has agreed terms on a seven-year contract, after the West Londoners reached an agreement with Dortmund on a £55m fee.
With just the formalities of that deal to be completed, Chelsea have now ‘intensified’ their efforts to sign Pedro, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Blues are battling Newcastle United to sign the striker, with the latter having had two bids for Pedro turned down.
Brighton have rejected two bids for Pedro worth in the region of £50m but are prepared to sell for the right fee.
Chelsea view Pedro as a versatile forward who can replace Christopher Nkunku, with the Frenchman expected to leave Stamford Bridge instead of regular first-team football.
Pedro has scored 30 goals in 70 appearances since signing for Brighton from Watford but is keen to leave to play European football. Both Chelsea and Newcastle can offer the 23-year-old Champions League football.
The forward, who has won three caps for Brazil, hopes a transfer to a European side can increase his chances of making next summer’s World Cup squad.
