Piero Hincapié joined Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2021 and since then, he has seen massive growth. He has already established himself as one of the most solid defenders at present and a regular name on the starting XI sheet.

Hincapié has featured across 27 games, netting two goals and one assist. He is averaging 1.8 tackles, 1.1 key interceptions, and 2.3 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).

The Ecuador centre-back is versatile enough to be deployed as a left-back. He has top speed and strong physicality, which allows him to defend well in wide spaces. He is also comfortable on the ball and often moves forward to provide as an extra man.

Will Chelsea spend a massive amount to bring Piero Hincapié?

Though Chelsea have enough options in their squad, they still need to upgrade their defensive line. They lack a leader personality in the backline, which can be fixed with the arrival of Piero Hincapié.

Hincapie is also proving himself in the German league and there’s no reason why he cannot do the same in the Premier League. He is a top-notch player and can help transform the Blues into a winning side. He can be an investment for many years to come.

However, the 23-year-old recently signed a contract extension with his current club. Taking advantage of the long-term power, Bayer Leverkusen are demanding €70 million for the defender. It remains to be seen if Chelsea are willing to splash such a large portion of the sum or not given their need for an upgrade for Nicolas Jackson.
