Chelsea in “direct talks” over player who “wants move” – months of waiting could pay off soon

Yesterday we heard from Fabrizio Romano that a potential Chelsea outgoing transfer was back on after a long and concerning silence.

Carney Chukwuemeka spent half of last season in the bomb squad after failing to find a summer move, and while Dortmund didn’t sign him permanently on the back of his second half of the season loan there, they are now interested.

It’s always felt like they were keen, just not at the €40m price point we had on Carney before. They’ve allowed him to hit the market so we can see there’s not much interest.

Dortmund in direct talks for Chukwuemeka

Fabrizio Romano’s Tweet about Carney Chukwuemeka, who is wanted once again by Borussia Dortmund.

According to Romano, there are a few promising signs coming from this move. Firstly that Dortmund have activated “direct talks” for the player. That means they’re not just finding out what he could cost but getting stuck into the details with Chelsea’s negotiators.

Chukwuemeka “wants the move” after a successful loan, so there’s no trouble there. The Blues are said to  “insist on a permanent transfer,” but that’s been pretty clear all along. There will be no more loans, as the midfielder heads into the second half of his contract.

Progress needed in Dortmund talks with lack of other interest

It’s promising that those talks are back on track, because otherwise we’ve been hearing absolutely nothing about serious moves for Chukwuemeka. Despite promising cameos when he got on the pitch for us and for Dortmund, there’s not been any solid approaches for him.

Maybe it’s his dodgy recent injury history that’s putting people off, or maybe our asking price has been kept high. Either way, if these talks with Dortmund don’t go well, it will mean we’re in a slightly worrying situation with less than a month of the transfer window left.
