According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have no plans to reactivate talks to sign Mike Maignan (29) from AC Milan during the summer transfer window. A potential deal for the France international stopper collapsed during the FIFA Club World Cup transfer window that opened earlier to allow clubs that were participating in the competition to sign players.
Talks collapsed 12 days ago between the Premier League club and the Serie A club over a potential deal for the 29-year-old. The two clubs suffered from a major disparity in valuation for Maignan, and hence, the deal fell through. Milan believed he was worth €30m, whereas Chelsea were only willing to pay €10m.
After the deal collapsed, the West London club are happy to begin the season with their existing roster of goalkeeping options. However, Milan face the same conundrum – sell Maignan this summer or see him leave on a free in 12 months. The goalkeeper’s contract at the San Siro is set to expire at the end of the season.
