The transfer market never stops moving and the most ambitious teams are already planning for next season. Chelsea, with a new project under construction under Enzo Maresca, are looking for youth with potentialn and immediate ability to contribute.

The need to adjust the squad after an irregular campaign has led the club to look at less glamorous profiles but with room for growth. In this context, the London outfit’s moves are aimed at reinforcing key areas without going in for extravagant gambles. The attack, in particular, requires alternatives. Nicolas Jackson has delivered, but he is not convincing as the only offensive reference.

Chelsea Have Agreed £30m Deal For Liam Delap

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have agreed a £30m deal with Ipswich Town for striker Liam Delap. The club have already exchanged official documents with Ipswich and has scheduled the player’s medical for Monday. The transfer appears to be in its final stages, with all the administrative formalities in place to make the English striker’s arrival official. Delap, 22 year old, is coming off the back of a difficult season collectively, but still managed to stand out with 12 goals and two assists in the Premier League. His performances have caught the attention of the scouts at Stamford Bridge.

How Will His Signing Affect The Blues?

This signing could be of great benefit to Chelsea. Delap is quick, strong, aggressive in pressing and quite mobile for his size. Although he does not yet have the killer instinct of an established goalscorer, he has plenty of room for improvement. In a team like Chelsea, surrounded by talent and with a more structured system, he could become a more consistent threat.

He is not a player who will solve all the team’s problems from day one, but he is one who can give the manager some breathing space. Unlike Jackson, Delap plays with more forcefulness in the box and drags defenders better. He also fits in with Maresca’s idea: high intensity, organised pressing and quick transitions. Perhaps that is the key: to anticipate. Football is no longer about signing names, but situations. And Delap, while not dazzling, showed personality amid the chaos. That counts.
